The MPSSAA winter sports season for Frederick County Public Schools athletics will begin Monday, December 7, 2020, with student-athletes taking part in skill-based activities, practices and tryouts.

Activities will adhere to strict safety guidelines established by the FCPS Return to Play committee. Participants are required to wear masks. To ensure we are taking appropriate steps to minimize risks for all student-athletes, students who are unable to wear a mask, or are unwilling to wear it appropriately, will be excluded from participation. If a student-athlete needs a face covering, one will be provided by FCPS.

While the winter athletics season will begin with skill-based activities, the hope is that teams can transition to normal practices later this month with competitions beginning January 4, 2021. The health and safety of FCPS students, student-athletes, coaches, and all stakeholders will continue to be FCPS’ top priority and drive all decision making.

FCPS regularly consults with the Frederick County Health Department and receives daily updates on health metrics in the county and the state. The FCPS Return to Play Committee will continue meeting weekly. Adjustments will be made as necessary.

FCPS fall sports include football, field hockey, soccer, cross country, volleyball, golf, and unified tennis. In order to participate, student-athletes must submit an updated Sports Physical and FCPS COVID-19 Parent-Student-Athlete Participation Acknowledgement Statement form prior to tryouts or the first day of practice.

Students who submitted these forms during return to play do not have to resubmit them. Students who registered via online athletic registration for return to play do not have to register again unless they changed sports or schools.

Stakeholders with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact coaches.
